Being a Dive Control Specialist plus enrolling in the Instructor Training Course which finishes with an Instructor Evaluation equals Open Water Instructor (OWI). As an Open Water Instructor you can teach and issue certifications for Indoor Diver, Scuba Diver, Junior Open Water Diver, Open Water Diver, Advanced Adventurer, Scuba Skills Update, Try Scuba, Try Scuba Diving, Enriched Air Nitrox, and Diver Stress & Rescue.

Course Description:  The SSI Dive Control Specialist course is designed to be the first step in preparing divers to become a SSI Dive Leader. In the SSI Dive Control Specialist course, you will gain the knowledge and  skill set to begin your professional career as a Dive Control Specialist.  The Dive Control Specialist is both a SSI Divemaster and an SSI Assistant Instructor. The Dive Control Specialist can organize and supervise dive trips, lead groups of certified divers on underwater tours, assist SSI Instructors with dive classes teaching classroom, pool except Out-of-air scenarios, and teach snorkel diving classes, scuba skills update / refresher courses, first aid / CPR programs, selected specialty courses, and Scuba Rangers (after completing the Scuba Rangers Instructor training).

Course Prerequisite:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have logged at least 60 open water dives.
• Provide own scuba equipment of leadership quality
• Have a current medical exam for diving, signed by a physician
• Be certified at the Divemaster level
• Have current certification in First Aid and CPR
• Have logged experience in Navigation, Night Diving, Deep Diving, and Search and Recovery
